Apple Magic Trackpad

So I bought an Apple Magic Trackpad. I prefer a trackpad to a mouse in many circumstances, on my laptop, my fingers don’t have to go far to the trackpad from the keyboard, on my desktop, I wanted the same experience.

My impression so far…

The Good

It’s great, got used to it almost right away, and prefer it to my mouse. It looks great, and it’s wireless, which is also good. The main reason I got an iMac and not a Mac Pro was the lack of wires (I also enjoyed not spending an exorbitant amount of money on it too).

This is a much better product than the Magic Mouse, which is too small to feel good in the hand.

The gestures are really cool, rotating and zooming in apps like Preview feels fluid and natural.

It looks the business, I feel like I’m in a movie from the future using it.

The Bad

Can I turn off gestures in certain apps? Not sure, but I really need to. Accidentally zooming in a web page is annoying, but doing it on the Finder is just stupid. It just zooms the icon size. Message to Apple: Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

I’d maybe prefer an actual button rather than press the whole thing down, it has it’s benefits, but more heavy handed users may struggle with this. It does make dragging icons a very natural process though, and I’m beginning to change my mind on this.

The just plain shit

Just going to reiterate my point on zooming the finder here, no Apple. Just No. If you really must do something with it, QuickLook might be better.
