The short article above questions it as a killer feature, but it totally is, think about it this way…

If you had two personal assistants, and had to make one of them redundant, would you get rid of the one who told you the moment a message came it, and very subtly reminded you about it until you paid attention, or would you fire the PA that insisted you ask about messages, and didn’t tell you anything unless prompted?

The lack of an external notifier is the same reason I dumped the Nokia E90. It’s quite simple, I want the phone to tell me I have a message. It’s 2010, I shouldn’t need to ask.
